TCS Reintroduces Dress Code as Work from Home Era Comes to an End in 2023

TCS: In a significant move, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, has recently put an end to its work-from-home policy and has now introduced a strict dress code for its employees as they return to the office.

This development marks a significant shift in the way TCS approaches its work culture, and it has garnered much attention from both employees and industry experts.

With approximately 70% of TCS’s workforce having already transitioned back to office-based work, this change comes as a response to the company’s hiring and attrition rates.

TCS’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Milind Lakkad, emphasized the importance of integrating the new workforce with the established TCS community, stating, “We strongly believe that they need to come to work so that the new workforce gets integrated with the larger workforce of TCS.

And that is the only way they will learn understand and internalize the TCS values and the TCS way. So yes, we are asking people to come all days in a week.”

The decision to end the work-from-home era and introduce a dress code policy comes as a strategic move to strengthen TCS’s professional standards and corporate culture. TCS has reinforced these standards by sending out an email to all employees, underlining the importance of adhering to the dress code.

In the email, Lakkad pointed out that adhering to a proper dress code is crucial for making a positive impression with stakeholders on a global scale. The dress code policy provides clear guidelines on the appropriate attire for official duties and responsibilities.

This move also reflects TCS’s commitment to integrating the workforce, especially those who have joined within the last two years and have been working remotely. The email states, “A large number of our associates have joined us in the last two years and have been working in a virtual or hybrid mode, and it is our responsibility to ensure they are well integrated – working from the office is key to internalize the TCS values and the TCS way.” The email also details the dress code policy under the heading ‘what to wear to work.’

According to the dress code policy, associates are expected to wear formal attire when representing TCS in external forums, for business meetings, or on formal occasions within TCS premises, such as client visits, town halls, and special occasions where a formal dress code is explicitly mentioned. The dress code includes options like business suits, formal full-sleeved shirts, trousers, formal skirts, sarees, salwar suits, and formal footwear in neutral colors.

Business casuals are allowed from Monday to Thursday, which includes formal shirts, skirts, trousers, and appropriate footwear. On Fridays, employees can opt for smart casuals, including half-sleeved shirts, collared t-shirts, trousers, jeans, and casual shoes.

TCS’s decision to bring employees back to the office and reinforce the dress code policy aims to foster a unified and professional work environment while aligning with the company’s core values and principles.

As TCS embraces this new chapter in its work culture, it remains to be seen how this shift will impact its employees and the overall industry. The reintroduction of a dress code signifies TCS’s commitment to maintaining a professional atmosphere and upholding its reputation as a leader in the IT services sector.
